My first baby was colicky. I was the one with the newborn baby that we couldn't take to restraunts because while other newborns slept soundly throughout, mine would cry inconsolably for hours every single evening. We didn't get newborn photos taken because I thought he'd just cry the whole time. I regret that... There was no grace period.. He started pm crying in the hospital and it raged on through his 4th month.
But then it stopped. He smiled, he laughed, he played. He's 18 months now and probably the happiest baby I know. We went for his 18 mo checkup and he smiled and chatted with everyone there. He's a social butterfly now. He has no signs of emotional issues or autism. He now cries less than most toddlers and sleeps more than most I know. One thing that worked for us is to have a strict and consistent nap schedule and bedtime routine (bath, diaper, story, bed) starting around 6months and sleep training (Ferber- read the book /don't knock it til you try it). Have someone to help you! Ask your doctor if you're feeling hopeless and stuck. It gets better. You're doing great!
