I just wanted to let you know that there was a recent recall on gripe water produced by one of the leading manufacturers in the country. It was contaminated with a parasite that can cause diarrhea which can be very dangerous in newborns.
As a pharmacist, I caution you on giving your baby anything that you have not asked the pediatrician or a pharmacist about. Over the counter drugs are not regulated like prescription drugs. It is only after they have been proven to cause harm that they are removed from the shelves!

What brand gripe water was it?? We have been giving one to our son. We did consult with our physician first but I still don't like to give him anything extra as he is already on prevacid. My hubby likes to give him the gripe for his hiccups.

Thanks. We did give that one to my son (I know it was Baby Bliss-don't have the container to know date). He finished it about a month ago. In hindsight, I remember telling my husband I thought it made him poop more, but he didn't seem to have diarrhea, thankfully. We have an appointment with a GI doctor Tuesday and I'll ask him to make sure everything is ok just in case, but from reading the link you gave me, it looks like his body was able to fight it off ok (Thank God). Still upsetting to think that we were trying to give our baby something to make him more comfortable and instead we gave him a parasite with intestinal cramps and the poops. thanks for the info. I have stopped giving him Gripe water, even the other brand.
