Has anyone tried these? I read about a study showing a significant reduction in crying spells in colicky babies (of breast fed moms only).

Hi My son is almost 8 weeks old and I started dipping his soother in a probiotic powder (acidophillus) 3 days ago. I do it 4-5 times a day. Anyway, he has been a little fussy the last two days but nothing like his colic days. Might just be coincidence, but it's not harmful in any way. I am solely breast feeding which is challenging enough and I have 3 other children so I'll try anything. I'll let you know if our good days continue. Christy

Thanks for your input. I bought some from Amazon after reading about a study showing a 90+ reduction in crying after use of probiotics in the book Baby 101. My 4 week old son is exclusively formula fed (for medical reasons), but I'm desperate and will try anything.

We started using BioGaia probiotic drops with our 6 week old son about 2 weeks ago. We've noticed a significant reduction in his daytime screamfests, though we still have issues at night. I wish I could say they were a magic cure, but since we still deal with 1-2 hours per night (down from 4-5, screaming bloody murder) I can't, though I'd say they have absolutely helped. He is breastfed mostly, EBM bottle fed when we grandma's around.

I have used this with my 2 reflux / colic babies and it worked wonders.

I've been giving my little guy (6 weeks old) BioGaia probiotic drops for several days and have noticed nighttime screaming has decreased. His late morning screaming still seems about the same.

What is this? Do I need to talk to a doctor about giving this to my 2 week old?

We put our now 6-week-old son on the BioGaia drops about three weeks ago, and although we have noticed some improvement, it hasn't been a cure-all. It was weird-- seemed like he improved dramatically for about two days, but then got a worse again. But I do think that he has been improving, slowly, over the past couple of weeks. There are longer periods without fussing now, but it's hard to say if it isn't just that he's also getting older and his nervous system is getting more mature, or that we have found better methods for soothing him. I would be LOST without the exercise ball...

I would be LOST without the exercise ball... EXACTLY same thing! Till 10th day we didn't have any problems with gases/colic. On the day it began we were devastated - the boy cried non-stop. We couldn't even massage his tummy so tense it was. Next morning I dashed to the pharmacy and got BioGaia - actually the only probiotic you can get in drops in Toronto. It worked perfectly - next day he was the best child ever. And then it got worse, but still not as awful as it was on Day 1. Now it's been 5 days on probiotic and we don't see any improvement but still it's around 7 out of 10. colleeniezI'm thinking of the exercise ball, I guess it helped you a little at least?
