I have read a few posts on here for encouragement. I wished I knew about this for my first child. My oldest daughter is five now. She was colicky for about two and half months. Nights were worst but days were better. Back then it seemed like we would never make it through. Right before I went back to work it ended and she has been wonderful ever sense. She is still sensitive but in such a wonderful way. She scared people when she was colicky. Colic scream is like no other. Now everyone comments on how wonderfully behaved she is. I can count on one hand the number of times I have had to put her in time out. She just didn't need much discipline growing up. She is so sensitive to other people and her actions. She is one of the best behaved child I know of. Oh and I am an elementary school teacher; I have seen it all in my 12 years of teaching. She is a blessing but those first few months it didn't feel that way. They were trying. The hardest thing I ever went through in my life!!!! I was so lucky to have my husband who is so patient.
Colic was hard for me to handle. I think colic is genetic and is more of a personality issue. I was colicky and so was my mother. Through life I notice that I am just more sensitive to my emotions and other people's emotions. My second daughter is four months old. Two weeks after her birth colic hit. But this times the screams were louder. The days were hard but the nights were better. Things improved dramatically when she was three and half months. We had a new baby and were finally able to enjoy her. But some days it seems to come back. She had her four month shots two days ago and we are struggling again. There can be variations of colic. My oldest was a much easier colicky baby than the youngest. Right now to get the baby to sleep she is swaddled and sleeping in the swing (buckled in). I wish she could sleep in the crib but it just doesn't work. We are working on helping her transition to the crib with our swaddling but with the shots we have had a set back. She hates car rides and screams the entire time. A few days ago we took a 20 min car ride two ways and she did great but tried again and it was awful! We did not have set backs with our oldest. Has anyone else had a colicky baby who makes improvements but then has a few days that seem to go back?
