Ok so I am on day three home from work due to a migraine. This sucks my boss who is also my friend for 15 years now is all pissed at me because I told her lastnight I would be there but then called today and said no. I was feeling ok last night but I was also taking vicoden for the pain. I woke up today and it still hurt just as bad. We are on a point system and I am on my last and final so I was not taking the chance of going in and then having to leave because tht is another point and then I would get fired. Any way, we don't know for sure what causes my migraines, my therapist in the past said they were stress induced which is very likely but then I read something about migraines coming with menopause. I realize I am only just gonna be 29, but I guess it's not completely unheard of. My mom went in right after she had me at 25. Any way when Livvy went in for shots and ger well baby check. ( completely different topic but side note for Tamara, shes tall and average weight, with those thighs unreal huh?) Anyway the nurse had comment on my hair loss which is alot and then questioned about if I get night sweats which I do so I looked all of this up and its signs of menopause. Not real shocking because I was told right before the baby that I had not ovulated in two years and could not have anymore babies, then he gave me meds to force a cycle before exploratory surgery and shortly there after I got pregnant, so not wanting to so don't get me wrong if I am in menopause it saves the cost of craig getting snipped but I want opinioins on how I know for sure and if you would associate the random migraines again with that or the fact that I am overwhelmed with life all the time.

Well honestly, migraines usually (most cases) are hereditary. Others aren't and have factors that cause them, i.e. STRESS, eye strain, foods, etc. I haven't heard of menopause causing migraines, usually they go away with menopause. That is the case with my family and many others I know. Are you on any meds? I take topamax as a preventative medication for mine. I have had major headaches literally everyday since 7th grade and started getting migraines after I graduated high school. No dr could ever tell me why I had persistent headaches, but all the scans show no tumors or growths so who knows... Your very well could be serious stress induced. I would talk to your dr about getting put on a PREVENTATIVE, not just a "fix" medicine for when your in the midst of it. But just beware, something like topamax is expensive because drug manuf. have got it for I think another 7 yrs before it can go generic b/c it was just approved by the FDA (like 3 yrs ago) as a migraine med, along with epilepsy and bipolar disorder.

My mom suggested getting on that yesterday when we went to the doc but because I am nursing nothing is ok to take so he didn't even want to give any thing to fix it he told me I could just tough it out. Which the vicoden isn't helping anyway so I haven't taken anymore due to feeding Olivia and I will just hope for good naps today.

Man that sucks. I forgot you were still breastfeeding. Yah, I had to quit taking it while I was pregnant, but as soon as I was able to start taking it again, I did because it is the only thing that has ever really helped me. I have only had like 4 break through migraines the whole time I have been on it. I had one just recently, but that was because I had some sinus congestion and ended up getting very bad vertigo that sent me into a migraine. It was crazy. I don't know if you've tried little things, but I will suggest, definitely naps, dark rooms as much as possible- even if you are out in the main room, keep it low light or sit with sunglasses on (sounds stupid but I do it all the time), check to see if you can take excedrin migraine while breastfeeding and if you can- take 2 of those and either drink a big glass of coke or a big cup of CAFFEINATED coffee. I always get starbucks, that makes me feel good and it helps. The other thing I have found, and this REALLY sounds stupid and looks even more stupid is, if you have the tie off your bath robe, take it off, fold it in half, and tie it around your head putting the knot where the most pain is. My pain would "wander" after a while so I would eventually have to move it all around my head, but it would ease the pain for some reason. Now I wouldn't dare let anyone else touch my head, but doing that felt great. So those are things you might want to try to get you through it right now. I hope you start to feel better soon. I know ALL to well how much migraines, and headaches in general, suck big butts!

pam my insurance wouldnt cover topamax...they gave me another kind similar to it and it didnt do S H I T. So they gave me...something thats used to lower blood pressure, that also works for headaches....that im supposed to take 4 times a day. I got it two months ago, and havent taken it. It freaks me out, because i already have low blood pressure. It scares me that itd make me sick or make me do something weird...

Wow, I've never heard of an insurance not paying for topamax. What was their reasoning?? Maybe you could have the doctor write a letter of medical necessity stating the need for the topamax since you already have low blood pressure and if you take this medicine there is a possibility that your pressure would become so low that it would create a medical problem. It would be worth talking to them about.

Man that sucks big butts because I know it would work awesome for you. I wish I could pay for it for all of you, or be like an underground drug dealer, send it to you for free... you know, hook ya up with the good stuff... but alas, I'm not a convict... or at least not that smart.
