Afraid to say it...but think we are through the colic!!

Yes the hairdryer noise instantly would make her calm and in most cases fall asleep within a few minutes. But it sounds like the love lock is doing that for you. We used the hairdryer in the extreme times when she was just inconsolable.
I have tried to figure out what the cause of her unhappiness is/was. I say IS because I will never say we are through the colic again! We have been having bad days for at least a week now. BOO!! But it is so much better than what it was in the beginning. I want to say colic is immaturity of the digestive system and neurological system and some babies just cant handle it. That is not a professional diagnosis. It is my opinion. The so called "easy" babies are relaxed. Our little one has been so tense since she entered this world. Fists clenched always. I think some babies just have a harder time adjusting. They were cozy in our bellys! Or for me- maybe she was not cozy- I had a TON of fluid. And so maybe she was cramped and she has been angry for a while! lol
I think as time has gone on- she is more and more comfortable and can now focus on her surroundings better and is distracted from the crying. She is a diva though- Which leads me to believe she is high needs. She gets bored VERY easily. And overtired very easily. I am praying that as each day passes she will realize this world is not that bad and ease up! So my thought is time is really the only cure for colic/high needs. Which stinks. Because I am wishing the days away when I should be enjoying my baby. I can only hope that it gets better. Being a new mom this is so so tough. I just want to snuggle her and have a happy baby. Ive always wanted two. But unless I can be GUARANTEED I will not go through this again. I am one and done! We are at about 4 1/2 months...Please please let this baby chill out!! I love her to pieces- her smile makes me melt. I want more smiles and giggles!!

I just had to chime in too, my son is 3 months and 2 weeks and I think we have gotten threw the colic too.  We also have ben dealing with reflux and milk allergy or intolerance.  After he turned 3 months and things were still not "great" we went back to the gastro doctor and it turns out even though he was on alimentum he was still having stomach issues.  Not pooping enough, lots of gas, rashiness on his cheeks and still crying alot but the screaming had stopped and he wasn't crying allllll the time like he was.  Well the doctor finally said let's put him on Neocate, no milk in it at all, add some prune juice to two of his bottles and we upped his reflux meds a bit.  Well we started all this on Monday late afternoon and we have already noticed a difference.  He is napping, crying a lot less and instead of pooping once a day, he is going 3 times.  I have been putting him down in his crib between 6:30 and 7:00 (he gets sooo tired by then) and he falls asleep on his own.  Currently he is waking at 11:30 pm and 4:30 am to eat but otherwise sleeps so much better.  Just wanted to share that is does get better and if there are still some issues to give up, keep trying to figure out if something else is going on.

I am so happy for anyone who has had the colic pass and if you are still going through it my heart goes out to you, hang in there is will get better, I promise!!!

Im so glad you wrote me back and said what you said. I needed that. We are at 8 weeks sunday and I feel like he is at his peak of unhappiness, it cant be any worse then it is now. Hes just not happy awake for the most part, will cry but then not wanna nap etc.. and I do feel like you said, he will look around one day and realize the world is not a bad place and he does not need to waste his energy crying all day. I pray every day for a better day. I wake up with anxiety about the day to come and cry at night, Im such a strong person, this is so not me, I want it to be over already.. Your words really have helped more then you know, I do think my son is a mix too of high needs/colicky... whatever it is......

One small victory, we ditched swaddling super early as our son would break out like he was in jail.. Today he was crying so much and took 3 fake naps, so my hubby put him in one of those pre made swaddles, and he gave up the fight, the same with this evening, crying again, then knocked out with the swaddle, but I feel like Im putting him in a stray jacket, I don't know how I feel about it yet. I know its good for him since hes so unhappy and squirmy and unsettled all the time, but at the same time I feel like Im punishing him...... I'll figure it out.

Your baby sounds like mine too, always tense and overtired ..but then wants to fight sleep SMH... You so sound like me, guilty for wishing the days away and just wanting to fast forward to when they are happy and we can rejoin the rest of the world with happy..well seemingly happy babies. I feel like you too, I was thinking 2, but I can tell you, if I am this sad and depressed with the 2nd, that will never happen. I am so strong, have a great job, great support system, but right now, Im the most fragile Ive ever been, if you ask me how are things going, a tear will fall out recklessly.... I cant be this fragile ever again, because God knows I love my little guy to death, but right now I only get to admire him in his sleep for the most part... Not fair!!!

@kim thats good to hear you are figuring it out, I almost wish my son had some physical issue to explain his crying so I could just FIX it like I fix everything else, but I think its not that simple for me, I think I have to accept I wont get an answer wrapped in a package. I will still talk to my docs at the 2 month check up to rule any thing else out, but Im pretty sure its something I gotta ride out, I did switch to soy and noticed less gas though, so we stuck with it. Good luck.. oh p.s. THey have acid reflux wedges you can buy so they can sleep slightly elevated, but Im sure you probably already knew that if you are as google crazy as the rest of us.

Thank you for the post. Everytime we go to the doctor they say the same thing- Its colic. Ride it out. Its so hard because you watch your baby cry and think there has to be something wrong. We were driving ourselves crazy. 4 different formulas. gas drops, zantac, gripe water.. And google, google google. I am happy that you were able to pinpoint it for your lil one. I just hope it really is colic for us and not something else that we just cant figure out.

It does get so much better and easier. I cant stress that more. Yes - we are still having some bad days but a gazzilion times better than what it was. (I just vent about bad days- but there are ALOT of good days too) I know exactly what you are going through. HANG IN THERE!!! You will be able to smile and say wonderful things soon about your baby. I have to believe that this experience will only make us stronger women, mothers. Because if we can get through this- we can get through ANYTHING!!
