So, this will be pretty typical I'm afraid... but none-the-less... we have a 6 week old and from the symptoms and what peds. are saying he is acting very colicky. We are trying our best to "deal with it" and "wait it out," we all know how hard that can be. We are wondering if we should seek a second opinion or try some more things to help our little guy out...
Here is the gist, started acting extremely fussy/colicky at three weeks (6 weeks now). We thought it could be "silent reflux" based on all the usual symptoms and in going to the peds. with this thought they prescribed .6 mL of Zantac twice daily, which helped a bit at first, but hasn't seemed to provide much on-going improvement.
We bottle-feed due to tongue and lip-tie at birth, and our LO receives about 20% breast milk and 80% Similac Sesitive formula in a typical day. The formula change was the peds. suggestion. We have not tried others.
Mostly during the day LO is awake and fussy/colicky every minute that he is awake. He sleeps for 10-20 minute intervals and wakes up screaming. He will eat good and gains weight (born at 8 lbs 13 oz and now weighs 11 lbs 5 ounces). He does not spit up much or vomit. He poops once every 1-2 days, and does have some gas issues/symptoms as the length between bowel movements stretches out.
He will sleep well for us at night, usually 2 to 3 stretches of 3-4 hours, waking up to feed and going back to sleep (we are thankful for this) but we feel that he sleeps so well because he is exhausted from his daily rituals of wailing and being generally unpleasant...
Anyway, we are thinking he is colicky and there is not much we can do, but were wondering if anyone had any suggestions on remedies we could try, or maybe seeking another peds. opinion?
We've tried mylicon, switching from Similac Supplementation to Sensitive, making sure he sits upright, burps well after feeds, swaddling and noise (vacuum works well, but once it's off the wailing starts back up)
Every once in a while he will give us an hour or two of general happiness, but it hasn't happened often.... are we missing something? Please help or offer suggestions!
Thanks!
