My son just started Prevacid yesterday. With taking it only once a day, how long did it take for some of your babies to notice improvement? Also, my son seems to get a stuffed nose everytime he eats?? It only seems to compound his misery...any ideas? thanks in advance!

We used it for about a week before we noticed any changes. The decrease in reflux also helped Mallorys chronic congestion (the Dr. said that bad reflux can cause congestion).

Nathan has been on prevacid for about 1 month. Before that he was on zantac - which we saw no results with. I would agree that it was about a week before we saw some results, my doctor said we should see results within 3 days, but we continued past the 3 days to see. We noticed less burping up stuff, less "acid" smelling breath, and less spitting up in general. He still is VERY congested all of the time. He can't sleep on his back for more than 20 minutes at a time without gagging and he is more gassy than ever. So we decided last week to take him off of the medicine to see if it was making a difference. After about 3 days of being off of the medicine he became VERY crabby again - much like the peak of our colic days. So we put him back on the medicine. He has been back on the medicine for 5 days now, but still crying a lot. So now I am not sure if the medicine is working for him or not.

We put Brooklyn on Tagamet (i havent heard any other moms say their ped. suggested it) for about a week. It did nothing....In fact, it made her spit up more..and she hated it. She never was a baby that spit up a lot, so the fact that it made her spit up was kind of weird. We didnt try any others because since it didnt do anything, we were pretty convinced she didnt have reflux.

We also tried Prevacid after trying Zantac and seeing no results...sadly, I didn't see a difference with the Prevacid either..I have to say though, lately Ruby has been spitting up a lot of acidy stuff, so I have been thinking of trying either again. Please post your results here and let us know how it goes.

Wow...just this morning I told my husband that I didn't mention the way Greyson gets a stuffed nose after eating...I had no idea it was yet another symptom of reflux! I'm counting on this Prevacid since yet again, like clockwork, he was up at 4a and has screamed since.

My son has been on Prevacid since about 2 months of age. He is now 6.5 months old and is still taking it. We started with just 7.5mg(1/2 of a 15mg solutab) daily. We are up to 15mg twice daily now. Although the spitting up has never stopped we noticed a huge difference in his fussiness after about a week or so! He overall has done great on it and we feel it was one of the things that has helped us get over the colic! Good luck, I hope it helps your little one! Audrey

Audrey, so Garren still spits up? Levi does too and he was on Prevacid when he was little but isn't anymore. I'm wondering if we should get him back on it bc he's been fussier lately and seems to be spitting up a lot still- he's 6 mo.

Kari, Garren still spits up a lot. He even spits up solids. It's so weird some days he won't spit up at all and then other days he spits up everthing that goes in his mouth. I honestly don't know if the Prevacid reduces his spitting up but I do feel like he has less stomach issues since he's been taking it. It may be worth trying again if you feel the fussiness is due to stomach issues. Audrey

hmm...you guys are making me really think I should try Prevacid again. Although I wonder if it would be a situation of "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". But she really has been very acidy lately and spitting up, which makes her cry every time. I ordered that "colic calm" stuff, which seems to help, but it is so messy! It turns her mouth and dribble black because of the charcoal..dreadful!

Well, last night was the first night that 4am came and went w/out fusss! Greyson actually slept quietly from 3a- almost 6a. Perhaps the Prevacid is really helping. I do, however, notice he definitely spits up more, and as someone else said, solid looking milk ( like cottage cheese ). Gross and awful for him. I also have been giving him Enfamil AR, but must say there's something about their pre-mixed ready to feed cans that's better than mixing it myself from powder. They're more $, but seem to be better ( figures ). Also- I found an easy way to get the Prevacid in....I cut a cross slit in a bottle nipple. I put warm water in the nipple, drop the Prevacid pill in and let him suck it down thru the nipple once it's dissolved. Works much better than the stupid syringe or dropper they gave me!
