I did take my baby to the chiro...three times a week, for about 3 weeks...she would get sooo terrifyingly upset though, and I just started to feel really bad about taking her there, so we stopped..I don't know if it would have helped if I had kept up with it. Sometimes I wonder..

Aliki,
do you think it was just the situation that scared Ruby or the actual adjustments that did it??

I am not sure...it's just that she would scream so much, and her eyes looked so terrified..and schlepping her over there 3 times a week to watch her go through that was just too much for me as well. At first I thought maybe it was helping because she'd come home and sleep for hours..but then I decided it was probably because she was exhausted from all the screaming. I started to feel like I was traumatizing her, and decide to quit. That's when I tried an osteopath, which is more gentle, but at $110 a visit and seeing no results, I stopped that too, and just decided to quit everything. The one thing I did notice is that after the chiro, she would take a nice big poop!

Oh yeah, the chiro adjustments get the spine inline so all the nerves get to where they are supposed to be so the digestive system gets kind of like a "kick start" and they can poop a lot. Happens with big people too if you're not used to the chiro!! gross I know. To bad you weren't on here a while back I did a nice big explanation of chiro adjustments and what they really do and are for... BUT, that would take to long to think of again and quite frankly, I'm really to lazy now!! Ask me about snot and I can give you and answer!!

well, with your knowledge about the chiro, does it make sense to you that it would help colic?? You know about snot too?? You are a true mom!!

I have 2 theories on it, so possibly why I didn't take Abby to one. Medically yes I could see where it could and can help. With colicky babies, a lot of the times they tend to have a lot of digestive issues and all around stomach problems so having the adjustments can help to align the spine and get the nerves back where they are supposed to be (etc, more medical than that, just trying to be quick for readings sake). Getting all of that fixed will ultimately lead to better blood flow, better "sensory" to the stomach/ digestive system, therefore better feedings, fewer stomach pains, less cramping, less crying, more sleeping, better moods, happier babies and happier mommies. Okay, that was the condensed version of the good side. Over time, continued use of their services can maintain a healthy spine and healthy baby. I myself go to a chiropractor for back injuries and knee injuries sustained in high school... okay and I also have colitis and it helps with that. With the adjustments I do notice improvements in the way my stomach feels after and my height always increases by an inch and a half. Go figure, he always makes me taller!! I need all the help I can get... But I am terrified of having my neck popped, it freaks me the hell out... but for obvious reasons I'll explain in a minute. The "bad" side that I am leery of, me being a respiratory therapist I get a little freaky when people start messing with the spine, especially the neck (okay, I know they don't do this with babies, but still you get the point). There are so many things that could go wrong, one wrong turn, crack, whatever and you have essentially ruined a persons life, either by sheer discomfort and made them terrified of chiropractors and the good they CAN do or medically and requiring them a life time of medical assistance. Not that I have seen many people wind up on a ventilator do to a negligent chiro or anything, but I have taken care of many people on vents because of neck injuries. And these have either made them quads or paraplegics, either way it can be a life that isn't very fulfilling depending on how you look at it. I don't know if any of this has convinced you to take them or not, but I think it is a personal decision and that each baby reacts differently to the therapy. So it may not be as effective for each one. As for snot... yah, that's what I do... not all that glamorous... but it comes in handy when the ladies on here have an issue. Pam

yeah I feared for that too...but the place I went was called Kid Chiropractic, and she specialized in children and babies..but even so, it made me nervous. She did to adjustments on Ruby's neck too. Incidentally, the woman I went to has a website if anyone wants to read up on this. http://www.kidchiropractic.com..notice the doctor's crazy pink hair! I myself have gotten a lot of relief from going to a chiropractor, so it's definitely something I believe in..I just don't know if it really made a difference in my baby's colic...but there is a testamonial from someone on her website who said it helped her (that's part of why I tried it)

yeah, I do see the benefit in it because I've seen it in myself, it just freaks me out with the little ones.
