How many picky eaters are out there? Olivia will eat almost all of her baby foods but she hates her formula. I have never heard of a picky 6 month old, especially with formula but she won't take it. WIC gives similac advance and she hates it. She peirces her lips together, shakes her head back and forth and won't eat. I have discovered if I mix it with another kind she will take it but alone she isn't going for it. I called WIC and told them she refuses to eat and asked for another formula and they refused. They said its not medically nessacary so they will not pay full price for a new kind. Their answer was to get a new pump and pump on my lunch break to get her through until I get off. But have any of you had this problem? this just stinks formula is to pricey thats why I got on wic is to help curb the cost. Man they suck sometimes.

WIC does suck. They are so picky about formula and all. About the size containers you can get and everything. I actually found MT. was one of the more flexible places....atleast they tried to work with us a little.

Sorry, I can't help you on this one. Abby eats anything that gets close to her mouth. She loves food in general. I have a piggy on my hands.

David will take anything from a bottle -- milk, water, formula of any kind (including Nutramigen - yuck). But I've known other babies who have refused formula (or bottle) altogether. I feel for them. I can never seem to pump enough to give him only breastmilk if I'm at work for more than a few hours. My friend's baby wouldn't drink formula, so she started mixing it in her food. I've heard of other people mixing breastmilk and formula together so it tastes more like milk. I'm not familiar with WIC's policies or even what's necessary to qualify for their services. With me working only PRN (and being called in very little lately), our income i s lower than it was. But my husband is self-employed and runs his own business, so our financial records are a disaster...I don't know how much we make when we separate business from personal. That's pretty scary.

Garren has been strictly bottle fed since he's had all the stomach trouble and he is on soy formula. It smells horrible. We've always had problems getting him to take a bottle and we've tried 5 different formulas and 3 or 4 different bottles to no avail. He was doing ok but is now back to not wanting his bottles again...I have been wondering if he is teething because he's fighting them so bad. Yesterday he only took 15 oz all day and had cereal twice. I don't know if this is enough or not. It so frustrating sometimes to know what is going on. Is he sick, is he teething, is there something wrong with his tummy? ?? I just don't know what to do sometimes and worry about him so much. He's not really been wanting to eat his cereal well lately either. :-/Anybody know what the formula intake for a 6 month old should be? Maybe a trip to the ped is needed huh? Audrey

Audrey, our friend just took her little guy to the ped for the same thing, and she said that hes teething and not to really worry unless he starts to show signs of dehydration. Payton is teething but like the girls hes a big pig and will eat anything put in front of him ... right now thats just formula and cereal once a day

Audrey, you don't think it's an ear infection do you? I'm just asking because Levi refused his bottles (and nursing) when his ears were hurting him. You'd probably notice other symptoms too, though. I'm not positive about the formula intake for a 6 month old, but I think it's about 30 + ounces. BUT I think that's only if they don't eat baby food yet. He eats other food, right? Maybe the cereal and formula are boring to him now that he's had the yummy stuff?

Thanks Margeaux that makes me feel a little better. He's been pretty fussy this week too so I just had a feeling maybe teething is what we're dealing with. But, with all the problems we've had thus far I just worry that there maybe something else too??

Kari- I've wondered that too? He hasn't been sleeping as well either. I guess I'll call his ped tomorrow and see what they think. He is taking some solids now...the jarred cereals, squash, carrots, sweet pot., applesauce, pears, mixed fruit etc. He's decreased his intake of these too though. I generally try to give him solids 2 times a day. Do you think it could be an ear infection with no fever?

I think they can have an ear infection without a fever, but I'm not sure how common that is-Levi did have fever with his. Has he been stuffy or anything?

He definitely should be eating more. I think 28-32 ounces is average. Samuel is 7 months and is now eating solids 3 times per day and about 30 ounces of formula. I think anything less than 20 ounces is a concern so you should probably talk to your doctor.
