Rebecca, your parents sound like my father. I broke my elbow when I was in the 6th grade (I jumped off a flight of stairs at an apartment complex- yah I know, real smart, probably deserved what I got) and it broke off the tip of my elbow and cracked my arm all the way around. So after 3 DAYS of my complaining my dad finally took my to the doctor an they took an x-ray and said yes, it was broken and needed a cast but all the bastard would let them do was move the tip back in place and then put my arm in a sling because he didn't want to have to pay for the cast. In his words, he didn't think it was necessary. Nice... daughter has a broken arm and a cast isn't necessary... schmuck.
As far as meds go, I am so hesitant on giving Abby antibiotics just for the reason of her becoming resistant to them. What happens if later she needs them and she has taken to many and nothing works? Then we're screwed. That's why when the doctor told us she was pretty sure Abby probably had some allergies and she recommended putting her on meds, only if I wanted- she wasn't pushing by any means, I decided not to because she was only 6 months at the time and I just could not justify putting her on allergy medication at that young of an age. She takes tylenol or motrin when needed and benadryl as needed (per the doctor of course) and her mylicon and levsin for her weird tummy. I just, like I said, can't justify giving her the other meds.
