Hey all, I think we had this discussion a while back but I can't remember when. Anyway, I'm just wondering what those of you with older (or bigger!) babies do when it comes to carseats. David is only 6.5 months but is the size of a 12 month old, according to his ped. (22 lbs and 29 inches today!) She said we need to use one of the bigger carseats (convertible or stationary kind) but that it still has to be rear-facing until 1 year. Bummer! Tamara, at what age (or size) did you turn Brooklyn around? Does anyone else use forward-facing seats? For those of you who don't use the infant seats, what kind of car sear do you use? I guess I need to start looking around quick for something! Thanks, Jenn

We just recently switched to a convertible seat. We have the Britax Roundabout, which always gets really good reviews. Although we still have Samuel rear facing, he seems to be doing better in the car with the new seat. I think it has something to do with the angle, and the fact that he is less confined in it. I am completely paranoid about safety things, so I wouldn't have him facing forward until 1 year, but that's just me.

We got convertible seat when Brooklyn was like...4-5 months. She was so darn big, she was over the weight limit almost...for the infant carrier. We started front facing her too, about 3-4 weeks ago. Its early, i know. We don't do a TON of driving as it is. Mya was front faced at about 10 months. Its partially because Brooklyn is SO big....she HATED riding facing backwards... and also, our seats in our car are almost like....bucket seats. they slant. The front facing was safer than the rear facing, because it tilted at the wrong angle. The safety arrows would never point the right way, rear facing. Front facing shes much more secure. But shes also a big baby. Shes almost 22 lbs.

I forgot to add....its however you feel most comfortable. I still wouldnt face him around at 6.5 months. I did Brooklyn a bit early...because of the situation. Whatever works for your family, and you feel comfortable and safe with is what i think ya should do

Abby is 20 lbs as of last Thursday and I am going to be getting her a convertible car seat. I got to where I have been leaving the carrier in the van and just bringing her in and out unless she is asleep, but d**n, my freaking back is just hurting to bad to do that. I found a cosco convertible at wal-mart for $49.95 the other day that I am going to get I think. I think she will be more comfy in a different seat also... and less b i t c h y in the car. Of course, it will still be facing backward until she is a year old.

Tamara, which model do you use?
And Laura, the Britax is expensive but I keep reading good reviews about it, so I may go for it.

The Britax is really expensive, but I just decided to go for it anyway. I just checked Consumer Reports, and the 2 other ones that got good reviews were Evenflo Triumph 5 for about $120 and Cosco Alpha Omega Elite 22-155 for $160.

Yeah...I was considering the Evenflo Triumph 5 until I saw some safety notice posted on a review that previously recommended it!

It's so crazy with all of the baby stuff. Even after you do all the research and read all the reviews, you still have to make sure that things haven't been recalled, or that there isn't some kind of safety issue. I really can't remember exactly why I decided not to get the Evenflo, but I had probably read something similar that made me decide against it. There's just too much to worry about.
